Default Sad, but true
I was watching an episode of Stargate SG-1 yesterday. The scene was the Col trying to get information from a crooked Senator. When the Senator was told that the ramifications of his failure to cooperate might affect his election hopes he replied, "Half of the ones who can vote won't and half of those who do vote are to stupid to know what they are voting for." To which the Col replied, "That explains how you got elected."

I'm for requiring IQ tests. Under 110 can't vote. If you are a high school drop out or can't read you can't vote. If you default on your student loans you can't vote until you pay them back. Of course, that wipes out half or more of the Democrat's voters and their maybe even their candidates. ;-)

I understand what you are saying, but wasn’t Thomas Edison a high school drop-out?

Maybe so, thus he wouldn't be able to vote. I realize that he may have been too smart for the curriculum and even bored but he still should have finished.

Why waste money educating someone to a level that is below their natural ability? I would rather have a brilliant man like Edison as a voter than someone who would willfully waste taxpayer money.

I would opt for making voters take the citizenship test that naturalized citizens must take together with a poll tax (maybe a voter registration tax of $100 that has to be renewed every 4 years or so).

The poll tax would eliminate the poor but smart person. Many people are poor due to reasons other than lack of intelligence. No tax, just a test heavy on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
