Default Have You Read Your G-mail?
If you are like me, you are totally into the Digital Age and pretty much live and die by cell phone and especially e-mail. I have several accounts as well as my work e-mail. Keeping up with them can be tedious at times. Most of the time, email is the first thing checked in the morning and the last thing at night. It was supposed to be timesaving, but it has become a huge time consumer and instead of freeing us for other things it has enslaved us.

Not too long ago we fussed about junk mail in our real mailbox and now we have tons more of it in our virtual boxes. True, e-mail is cheaper and easier to dispose of but sorting and trashing it takes far longer. Most of what we get that isn’t sales related or porn isn’t all that edifying either. Maybe 5% of our e-mails make a difference in our life.

Col 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. KJV

Back in the first century, copying was done by hand so a letter or epistle would make it to a church, be copied and then passed to another one. As we see here, Colossi got to read Laodicea’s letter and vice versa. Greater care was given to writing and copying these letters before forwarding unlike e-mail. Care was taken to be sure that the letter was from Paul or Peter. The churches were the first truth or fiction clearing houses and they scoped out any urban legends before their copies went out.

These epistles are still the only letters that are 100% worth reading and will always provide much needed important information for our lives now and hereafter. Why not change our habits and make our G-mail or God mail be the mail we check first thing in the morning and last at night? It will make us wiser and holier saving us much time lost from guilt making us more productive in the long run.

Josh 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. KJV

If we really want to be successful, we’ll spend our time where it counts buried deep in G-mail not junk mail. Then we will have real wisdom, truth and love to forward to all those in our address book. We may even be able to lead them to have their own address in Heaven reserved for them as they use the ultimate chat room; prayer. So get reading and rejoice!

You have G-mail! Maranatha!

PS
If a Jewish friend is reading this exhortation you can use Joshua 1:8. You can still call it E-mail or Elohim mail. The principle is still the same. Shabbat shalom and mazol tov!
